Overview

Whaikaha, New Zealand’s Ministry of Disabled People, coordinates a public-sector internship programme for disabled students and recent graduates. The ministry has confirmed a new cohort beginning in February 2027 following its 2025/26 pilot. Participants enter paid roles with work experience, structured learning and support from managers, buddies and mentors, while connecting with interns across government. Applications are expected later in 2026, but exact dates, host agencies and detailed eligibility have not yet been released. Previous placements covered communications, human resources, policy and programme management; these are examples of earlier work and are not confirmed vacancies for the 2027 cohort.
